Advanced
Whatever your riding experience and however good a rider you think you are, there's always room for improvement. Like any hobby or sport, successful biking requires skill. Skill can develop slowly over time , or can be learned quickly with the help of an Instructor.

And the quickest way of getting on course is to ..... get on a course. The very expression 'advanced riding' conjures up images of 100mph corners, knee down, wheelies and other hairy antics. For others it means pottering a BMW along in flourescent Sam Browne belts and having earnest conversations on the finer points of the highway code. IT'S NEITHER.

Advanced, or post-test, training takes you from wherever you are skills-wise and makes you a better rider. This can make you a faster rider, or a safer rider at whatever speed you choose to ride.

While the motorcycle test is there to make sure every rider reaches a very basic level of competence, the training you get is just that: basic. You're not taught to do all the exciting things properly. Nor are you taught some of the more important basics of steering, braking and cornering.

Just spending a day or two concentrating on practising every aspect of your riding will improve your style and make you whole lot safer. Not just by making you better at the mechanics of good riding, but by showing you how to minimise the chances of other road users ruining your day.

Blue Ribband
Blue Ribband Rider Award

The aim of the course is to assist experienced motorcyclists, to improve their riding skills and to increase the enjoyment that they get out of motorcycling. The course seeks to encourage you to THINK about why? and what? You are doing when you are riding, to be self-critical and to be able to recognise your own strengths and weaknesses. The main object throughout the course is that safety MUST be paramount at all times, without losing the enjoyment. It also follows that law regarding speed limits and signs are mandatory. The 'Blue Riband' course is run over a day and a half.
